Frequently Asked Questions
-
Getting started is simple: no referral is needed for your initial evaluation.
Should your therapist recommend continuing with therapy sessions after your evaluation, our therapist will work directly with you to secure the necessary authorization from your healthcare provider.
-
“Anytime “ is the short answer! Pelvic floor therapy is beneficial no matter how early or far into your motherhood journey you are.
During pregnancy: Any time is a good time to start, especially if you experience pelvic pain, back or hip discomfort, or want guidance for labor preparation. We can begin internal techniques starting in the second trimester.
Postpartum: We can see you within 2 days of giving birth with our Mom & Baby Early Postpartum Consultation! We can assess your pelvic floor following clearance from your midwife or OBGYN, usually around 6 weeks postpartum.
-
Sessions are personalized and may include any of the techniques found here. In the beginning of each session, we’ll check in about what’s most important to you that day. You can help to guide the session, or we can design it for you…whichever feels best!
-
Yes! We happily accommodate babies in clinic and home-based sessions, including feedings, diaper changes, and comfort needs.
-
While we specialize in pregnancy & postpartum, our care goes far beyond that! Please feel free to contact us to discuss your needs and make sure we’re a good fit for each other.
-
Manual techniques are gentle and graded to your comfort level. Some techniques may feel unusual or uncomfortable at first, but your therapist will guide you on relaxation techniques and comfort measures through each step. Sometimes your pelvic floor can also feel sore following internal treatment, similarly to how you can feel after getting a massage.
-
While internal (intra-vaginal and/or intra-rectal) techniques are incredibly helpful in assessing and treating pelvic floor dysfunction, your body is entirely yours and we would never push you to do anything you’re uncomfortable with. If you’re nervous, sometimes waiting a few sessions to develop a good relationship with your therapist can help before doing any internal work.
-
Every body is unique. Some clients notice improvement quickly, while others benefit from ongoing support. Your therapist will help you create a plan that fits your goals and schedule.
-
We offer scar management and recovery support, including hands-on techniques and education to promote healing, reduce discomfort, and prevent long-term complications.
-
Yes! We provide home-based sessions for both pregnancy and postpartum services, making it easier for you to receive support in your own environment. In-home care does require an additional fee.
-
Absolutely- in fact, please come see us. Many pelvic floor therapists are not trauma-informed, which can result in more trauma. Finding a pelvic floor therapist who knows how to address trauma and/or anxiety is vital to your pelvic floor therapy experience if you have a history of anxiety, panic attacks or disorders, or any type of trauma. Trauma-informed care is always available and creates a safe, supportive environment for both physical and emotional wellbeing.
